GIN LANE

CLIENT: Greater Than Gin

In 1751, English painter and artist William Hogarth published twin prints: Gin Lane and Beer Street to depict the 'evils' of gin drinking compared to the benefits of beer. Gin Lane was populated by death, despair and madness while Beer Street was shown thriving in good spirits and abundance, to encourage the English to denounce gin, believed to be the sole cause of immorality in society.

1751 was a time when Gin was the most common drink of choice in London. These artworks were part reality and part propaganda. 270 years later, with Gin once again becoming the popular choice around the world so we took a shot at
reimagining Gin Lane with fresh eyes

My artwork represented celebrating pop culture with nostalgic icons alongside today’s relatable social habitual quirks.
